Adventures of An Ethical Miscreant
Okay so, this is actually a serious question that I really want to hear your answer to. Y'know how I told you that I have an eating disorder, and that's one of the reasons I can't be vegan all the time? Okay so, I got a blood test because I've been having some health issues, and it turns out that I'm severely anemic. My iron level is 11, when it should be at least 36. At a 5, your heart is at risk of stopping, and at a 7 you need a blood transfusion. I need to get a LOT of iron, fast. (cont.)

I’m going to be taking iron supplements and having molasses and nettle tea and seaweed and other high iron vegan foods, but it’s dangerously low, and I’m leaving the country in a few weeks, and I need to restore my health asap. This deficiency has caused painful spasms, I’m constantly cold, etc. The quickest way to ensure my iron levels get as HIGh as possible is to eat a bit of meat. My health really is on the line if I don’t. Still think eating meat in this situation would be unacceptable?

Yes.

  2. ki11ingm00n said: Eat foods with folate. Spinach, etc. Not hard. Considering that earlier you (angel-mermaid) said you were eating meat (chicken), meat is clearly not helping you get iron. If its as low as you claim your doctor should be prescribing you folate pills.
  3. ruetheterrible said: Eat (green/brown) lentils like a mofo. Lentils > meat. Not only in iron, but in pretty much anything else, too. Can’t believe I’m actually handing out advice when all I really wanted to do last week was slap this person in the frickn’ face. But ok.
  4. cuomover said: There’s iron in so many other foods…meat is probably the worst place to get iron. Most veggies are rich in not only iron, but a lot of other awesome things for your body.
